Learn how to create and save a debug data file from the control panel.

1. Insert a USB drive into the port on the front of the printer.

2. Open the Support tools menu.

   

3. Select the Troubleshooting option from the left pane.

4. Depending on the firmware version installed on the printer, follow one of these methods to Generate Debug Data.

   • Older HP FutureSmart versions

     1. In the left pane, select the Generate Debug Data option, and then click Start to generate and save the file to the printer.

        NOTE: 

        This option has been integrated into the Retrieve Diagnostic Data menu in newer firmware.

     2. Wait for the process to complete. This might take several minutes.

     3. When complete, select the Retrieve Diagnostic Data option from the left pane.

     4. In the right pane, select the Create zipped debug information file option.

     5. Clear the Clean up debug information check box.

   • HP FutureSmart 5.4 and newer

     1. In the left pane, select the Retrieve Diagnostic Data option.

     2. In the right pane, select the Create zipped debug information file option.

     3. Select the Generate debug data check box.

        NOTE: 

        If you want to remove all history and collect only current debug data, select also the Clean up debug information check box.

5. Select Save to USB.
